Converge: On my shield
27/06/11 || Love Lagerkvist
While Converge probably don’t need an introduction to must of you, “On my shield” is another story. Released in 2010 during a European tour, it later became available as a digital single and a limited “7 from the bands webstore. Suffice to say, it flew over at least my head until someone put it on their “albums of the year”-lists. As one might imagine, “On my shield” contains the appropriately named “On my shield”, a four minute exercise in all things Converge. Starting off with a “Jane Doe”-style intro, the track quickly escalates into the perfected mix of super-dense wall of guitars, poly-rhythmic yet distinctly punky drumming and Bannon’s trademark vocals (both of the harsh and clean kind), all with Ballou’s impeccable production to boot.
8/10: This is about how good singles get.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
